Tashmoo Wood is located just a mile outside of Vineyard Haven. Also known as Tisbury, Vineyard Haven is the largest of island’s six towns and one of the main points of entry to the island by ferry. Oak Bluffs is the other major town with ferries going to and from the mainland.
Main Street Vineyard Haven is lined with quaint shops, while the waterfront features several boatyards and restaurants, including the famous Black Dog Tavern. There is a public dock in Owen Park where transient boaters can rent moorings.

Getting to Martha’s Vineyard
The Island of Martha’s Vineyard can be reached by sea or by air; there are no land routes, bridges or tunnels connecting it to the mainland. Most travelers arrive by boat; a lesser, but growing, number use the airports as their point of entry.
By Air
Martha’s Vineyard is easily accessible by plane. The Island is home to two airports – one for private planes, the other serviced by Cape Air year-round and by U.S. Airways, Jet Blue, and Delta during the summer season. Direct flights are available from Boston, Providence, New York City, and Washington, D.C.
By Sea
There are several options available when accessing Martha’s Vineyard by sea. Some of the most common vehicles are the ferries, which make regular runs between Martha’s Vineyard and the mainland daily.
Getting to the ferries is by car or by bus. If ferries aren’t for you, there is also the option of chartering a private boat or securing concierge transportation services.
Ferry Services
To get to Martha’s Vineyard island and Tashmoo Wood, you have to come by sea or by air. By sea, ferries to Martha’s Vineyard arrive from Falmouth, Hyannis, Nantucket, New Bedford and Woods Hole in Massachusetts; Quonset Point in Rhode Island, Montauk in New York and NYC, New York.
Ferries from Woods Hole to Martha’s Vineyard operate year round, while other ferries run seasonally. Check ferry schedules for current information or ask your realtor who can help you schedule your trip.
The Steamship Authority is the only ferry that carries vehicles. Advance reservations are strongly recommended. All other ferry companies provide paid parking if you choose to come to Martha’s Vineyard without your vehicle.
