Winston Allen, a resident member of Glenmoor, recently returned home in a triumphant fashion from the Dextro Energy Triathlon ITU World Championship Series Grand Final which was held in China at the Shisanling Reservoir Zone Sept. 7-11.
The triathalon series final featured numerous age groups and Allen did himself and the St. Augustine, Florida golf community, proud by winning the gold medal in the 80-and-up age group. However, such athletic prowess has become a habit for the 81-year-old athlete.

A retired US Army Officer, Allen has always adhered to the US Army slogan—be all you can be. From Olympic 10-meter diving finalist to top age-grouper in triathlon, Allen is definitely a senior superman. He has lived each day by the army slogan, never letting anything get in his way. His inspiring results include six Ironman World Championship podium finishes and the Hawaii 65-69 age group swim record which he held from 1995 to 2000.
Allen first became interested in triathlons in 1982 when his son Greg competed in the Hawaii Ironman. Even though he was unable to go to Hawaii to see his son finish at the Ironman World Championships, he knew that Ironman was something he wanted to do. He was drawn to the challenge of learning and competing with the fittest athletes in the world.
The senior Allen easily transformed into a triathlete. Within a year he completed his first triathlon and has been at it ever since. His most recent win in Bejing featured athletes from all over the world, in all categories. The course and venue had been upgraded since the last contest was held there in 2008.
