Memorial Day at Reynolds Lake Oconee, GA
Reynolds Lake Oconee, GA: Hosts Memorial Day.
> Reynolds Lake Oconee, Greensboro, GA residents are making plans to attend the Memorial Day Weekend Patriotic Concert that is a staple of Lake Oconee life as the summer season approaches.
The event happens Sat., May 27 at 6:30 at The Farm at Oconee and begins with a salute to America, followed by pianist and vocalist Michael Cavanaugh in a tribute concert to the music of Billy Joel. Dark Beach for Turtles at Dataw Island, SC
Dataw Island, SC: Looking out for turtles during nesting.
> Dataw Island, SC is observing its annual “dark beach” period in accordance with guidance on loggerhead turtle protection issued by the state’s Marine Turtle Conservation Program. Residents and visitors follow a “Light’s Out for Loggerheads” advisory through the month of May, as adult females come ashore to nest at night.
They require a dark beach in order to navigate in and out of the ocean. Artificial lights in homes can disorient the expectant mothers. Dataw Island lies along a stretch of shoreline where an average of 3,378 loggerhead are documented each season. Send me more information about Dataw Island!
