COMMUNITY NEWS AND UPDATES
Callawassie Island Looks Out For Bluebirds
Callawassie Island, SC: Tracking nesting habits and more.
> Callawassie Island, SC continues its annual Bluebird Monitoring Program this spring, relying on advice and volunteer service from the Callawassie Ecology Committee. Residents who participate receive guidance on maintaining and monitoring bluebird boxes.
Metrics tracked by the committee include number of nest sites, number of nesting attempts, total number of eggs, total eggs hatched and how many fledglings leave the nest.
Individuals who get involved will have a team leader assigned to them who will help ensure consistency and timeliness of monitoring. Increasing the island’s bluebird population, the program’s goal, is highly likely to realize success thanks to these efforts. Send me more information about Callawassie Island!
The Cliffs Helps Golfers Stay on Course
The Cliffs, SC: Staying home doesn’t mean losing your skills.
> The Cliffs at Glassy, Landrum SC and its director of golf instruction, Sean Kennedy, recently distributed a program of unique golf tips for use by golfers at home, as practice, lessons and rounds of golf remain on hold due to the pandemic.
Featuring learning tools like mirrors, yardsticks and pool noodles, Kennedy’s in–home tips reinforce the important fundamentals of grip, posture, swing tempo and alignment to the target.
Tour professionals have used these techniques for generations, to prevent the small errors in pre-shot technique that can easily creep into a golfer’s game. Send me more information about The Cliffs at Glassy!
Dataw Island Publishes Ecology Guide
Dataw Island, SC: New guide for nature lovers.
> Dataw Island, SC has published a comprehensive, 60-page Ecology Guide, intended to educate residents and visitors to the complexity of the 840-acre community’s ecosystem.
Researched, written and illustrated with mainly volunteer contributions, the book is a field guide to community surroundings, which consist of tidal marshland, Jenkins Creek, the Morgan River and many freshwater lakes and ponds.
The Dataw Island Conservancy invites members to view a copy online or even download it and make a printout. Send me more information about Dataw Island!
