When you mention golf and the state of Georgia, people immediately think of Augusta National Golf Club, the Masters and Bobby Jones.
From there, a golfer’s thoughts might turn to vacation and retirement locations on the state map, such as
- Sea Island
- Lookout Mountain
- Lake Oconee
- Lake Arrowhead
- Jekyll Island
Georgia’s Natural Environments
In Georgia there’s a wonderfully diverse collection of natural environments in which to live, work and play—plus an appealing golf traditionalism sewn into the cultural fabric.
Summers in Georgia are warm and winters are mild. In between comes enjoyably brisk and sunny autumns as well as colorful springtime blossoms in the parks, gardens and orchards. Georgia experiences light snowfall along its mountain ranges and virtually none in other regions.
A Growing State
Georgia currently ranks as the 11th-fastest-growing state in the US. Georgia’s population increased every single year between 2010 and 2022. Among its primary commercial assets is the city of Atlanta’s Hartsfield-Jackson International Airport, which isn’t just America’s busiest, it’s the busiest airport in the entire world.
The entire infrastructure of business and commerce has been consistently well planned and well supported by investment, public and private alike.
A recent study found that four of Georgia’s largest industries accounted for nearly 75 percent of all new jobs and 84 percent of investments:
- Food processing
- Aerospace
- Automotive
- Advanced manufacturing
From the Mountains to the Sea
Georgia has a nearly 5,000-foot mountain along with 100-plus miles of Atlantic Ocean shoreline. These natural assessts have played a large part in creating a natural canvass for world-class private golf communities, gated golf communities, luxury golf communities and waterfront golf communities.
Its coastal ecosystem, home to freshwater tidal forests, maritime forests and long-leaf pine forests, includes the following impressive list of natural environments:
- 14 barrier islands
- 300 square miles of open Atlantic Ocean
- Nine major estuaries
- 3,400 miles of tidal shoreline
Notable Attractions
Buy a beautiful home in a classic golf community and you’re certain to attract house guests. There will be plenty for those visitors to do, both inside and outside the gates.
Prominent examples include the Georgia Aquarium, which is the largest in the Western Hemisphere; Okefenokee National Wildlife Refuge, a 680-square-mile wilderness on Georgia’s southern border; the Jimmy Carter National Historic Site, which provides an immersion into the former president’s rural Georgia upbringing; and Centennial Olympic Park in downtown Atlanta, which pays tribute to the 1996 Summer Olympics.
We sometimes lose sight of the fact that life in any top-quality, gated golf community is facilitated to a great extent by the modern, comfortable, low-maintenance electric golf cart.
All three of the golf cart brands that dominate the U.S. market—Club Car, EZ-Go and Yamaha—are manufactured in Georgia. Quietly, this billion-dollar-year industry contributes significantly to the state’s economy and quality of life.
