Good Morning! The performing arts are vital to quality-of-life for residents of GolfCourseHome communities. Many not only actively patronize live entertainment, but also support local performing arts centers by serving on boards and helping to raise funds.
Moving to a luxury golf community means you can play plenty of golf. But days that begin with 18 holes can easily make way for enjoyment of music, theatre, dance, literature and intriguing lectures—if you live somewhere conducive to these rewarding pleasures. Here are four cities from Florida to Texas where the arts are alive and communities are nearby enough to enjoy them.
Raleigh, North Carolina
Living at a community such as Brier Creek in Raleigh, NC, puts a resident just down the road from the Progress Energy Center, where next month the North Carolina Symphony will perform the score to Stravinksy’s ballet, “The Firebird” and later the Taj Mahal Trio is in concert performing Taj’s eclectic take on the blues on the eve of the singer-songwriter’s 70th birthday.
Dallas, Texas
Well known for commerce and industry, Dallas, TX, also has a recognized active and vibrant performing arts scene. In fact, Travel + Leisure readers have ranked its Margot and Bill Winspear Opera House as No. 5 among Top Arenas and Performance Venues around the world.
The magazine’s readers also voted the Winspear in the AT&T Performing Arts Center No. 36 among the Most Visited Landmarks. For performance-going residents of communities such as The Bridges at Preston Crossings, in Gunter, and Lake Ridge, which lies southwest of Dallas in Cedar Hill, the opportunities are many.
Washington, D.C.
It’s been said that Washington, D.C. is home to “enough theater productions to fill a library of Playbills.” Best known among its venues are the Kennedy Center, the Washington Performing Arts Society—where violin virtuoso Joshua Bell takes the stage next week, and the National Theatre, now presenting the Broadway road show of “Beauty and The Beast.”
If you lived at the Haymarket communities of Dominion Valley Country Club and Regency at Dominion Valley, you’d take in the scenic Virginia countryside while enjoying an easy commute into our nation’s capital and its wide performing arts scene.
Palm Beach, FL
Cultural sophistication in the state of Florida is available in abundance for Palm Beach-area residents, including those who live inside the gates of Frenchman’s Creek and Frenchman’s Reserve.
The Borland Center, Dramaworks and the Palm Beach Opera and the Raymond F. Kravis Center for the Performing Arts are just the tip of the performing arts iceberg here. You can discover more venues covering live performances in Palm Beach here where you’ll find everything from Puccini opera to a Shakespeare festival to avant-garde dance.
FLORIDA
> Stuart Yacht Yacht & Country Club, Stuart
The Stuart Yacht & County Club is one of the premier yachting and golf communities in south Florida, offering the welcoming taste of Old Florida complete with views of natural landscapes, golf or water. The club members own and manage the club, and ensure all members have a friendly, first-class experience.
An intimate club with all the amenities of a large resort, the Yacht & Country Club’s Dick Wilson-designed golf course was updated in 2006 by Ed Seay (Arnold Palmer Designs) and Tom Walker (Gary Player Designs) and continues it fine reputation as a course friendly to the beginner, yet challenging for the low-handicapper.
The club’s formal dining room and grill room have earned a reputation as one of the area’s finest restaurants. Located at the Sports Complex are six Har-Tru tennis courts, (two lighted) that are active with men’s, ladies’, mixed events, inter-club league activity, as well as private and group lessons. A complete Fitness Center overlooks the pool.
An active Yacht Club offers direct ocean access via Crooked Creek. YCC Yacht Club activities include interaction with other local yacht clubs for boatacades, beach picnics, cruises, and fishing tournaments.
