Artist in Residence Event at Palmetto Bluff, SC
Palmetto Bluff, SC: Hosts Artist in Residence reception.
> Palmetto Bluff, Bluffton SC continues its Artist in Residence program with a Welcome Reception on Thur., July 11 from 4 to 6 p.m. with current resident artists Michael Smalls and Dino Badger, who practice the art and craft of Sweetgrass Basket Sewing. Michael Smalls is a 7th-generation basket-sewer from Mt. Pleasant, S.C.
He learned the craft from his grandmother, Lucinda Pringle, whose mother was an enslaved worker on Laurel Hill Plantation. Dino Badger is a former apprentice of Smalls and now a full partner in the studio. Tickets are $80 per person and completed works can be purchased in the Palmetto Bluff FLOW gallery. Patriotic Spectacular at The Villages, FL
The Villages, FL: Hosts Patriotic Spectacular.
> The Villages, Lady Lake FL presents the Patriotic Spectacular, a musical tribute to American independence, on stage in two performances Wed., July 3 at the community’s Savannah Center, one show at 3 pm and a second at 7 pm.
Members of three separate concert bands combine to perform a variety of patriotic music, drawing on the songbooks of the Civil War, John Philip Sousa and classic Broadway. This year’s concert is directed by Anthony Maiello, Professor of Music and director of Instrumental Studies at George Mason University. Tickets are $15. Send me more information about The Villages!
