Ford’s Colony Chips In With Masks


Ford’s Colony, VA: Community club makes masks.

> Ford’s Colony, Williamsburg VA  applauds the efforts of an activity group in the community that has been contributing to health safety in the Williamsburg area during the Covid pandemic. The 15-member Ford’s Colony Craft Club has been busy making cloth non-surgical masks for local hospitals, health facilities, continuing care communities, friends and neighbors.

By a recent count, they had sewn over 1,500 masks. Members and other Ford’s Colony residents have donated fabric and elastic needed to make the masks. Send me more information about Ford’s Colony!

Golf Digest Honors Desert Mountain Instructor

Paxton O’Connor, the PGA Director of Performance & Instruction at Desert Mountain Club, has been named to the prestigious list of “Best Teachers in Arizona” for 2019-20 by Golf Digest in its December/January issue.

WindRiver, TN: Hosts tournament October 7.

> WindRiver, Lenoir City TN is getting set to host an installment of the popular and highly Knoxville Pro-Am golf tournament series. The WindRiver event takes place Mon., Oct. 7 and is open to pros and amateurs in the area, with an entry fee of $45.

Red Ledges Practices Sustainability

Red Ledges, UT: Recognized for sustainability practices.

> Red Ledges, Heber City UT  and its turfgrass maintenance department are being recognized for progressively sustainable agronomy practices. The department’s “limited disruption concept” includes a complete avoidance of hollow-core aerification of greens, an otherwise unheard-of policy in golf.

Red Ledges has also eliminated the use of synthetic foliar nitrogen on greens, choosing instead to use primarily organic, locally-sourced nitrogen and encourage conditions to promote mineralization of the existing nitrogen in the soil. Send me more information about Red Ledges!

> The Club at Ibis, West Palm Beach FL was honored on Thur., Aug. 22 at a red-carpet gala event hosted by the Palm Beach Post newspaper. The purpose of the event was to announce the winners of its “Best of Palm Beach County” contest.

The Club at Ibis won in the category of Best Country Club. Over 115,000 votes were tallied from local residents nominating their favorite business or service across 20 different categories. Lake Arrowhead Extends Summer Fun

Lake Arrowhead, GA: Take a boat tour and more this summer.

> Lake Arrowhead, Waleska GA recently announced that it would extend through all of August its highly popular “Summer of Fun at Lake Arrowhead” program.

The program takes place every Saturday through Aug. 31, it features live music, great food, prize drawings, a Tour of Homes and an enjoyable and refreshing Boat Tour.

WindRiver Boat Rides for Veterans

WindRiver, TN: Hosts boat rides for veterans.

> WindRiver, Lenoir City TN will host a unique Boat Rides 4 Vets excursion on Sat., Aug. 17, launching from the WindRiver Marina from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m.

The event is sponsored by VFW Post 12135, based at Tellico Village Yacht Club. Veterans and their families are invited to enjoy a free day cruising, tubing and fishing on Tellico and Ft. Loudon Lakes.

WindRiver Marina will be the boarding and departure point for all boats. It’s a way for boat owners to say thank-you to military veterans. Additional captains and boats of all kinds are always needed. Send me more information about WindRiver!

Woodside, SC: Community marks 4th w/ food and more.

> Woodside, Aiken SC celebrated our nation’s birthday in style with a Fourth of July Celebration at the community’s Reserve Club, from 6:30 to 10 p.m.

Members and their guests enjoyed activities like the flag golf tournament, the racquets round-robin tournament, and the festive food and drink options, including the All-American cookout dinner. Heritage Shores July 4th Event

> Heritage Shores Bridgeville DE  saluted Independence Thur., July 4 with its traditional “Fourth of July at the Sugar Beet” event.

It took place at the community’s public market and gathering center and featured a Grill Menu open from noon to 7 p.m. and live entertainment from 3 to 6 p.m.  There was Happy Hour pricing all day at the bar plus snow cones and cotton candy for the kids. Break out your sombreros and any other festive attire for an evening that will feature Citico’s Mexican buffet, cocktail specials and live music by K-Town Band featuring Mexican fiesta intermissions.
